Chris, the RO Ambassador is here to help you during your first year of the RO programme by sharing his experiences with you and supporting you with your questions. Each month he will get in touch with you via email with some useful information and guidance about different topics which will help you on your RO journey. Read below to find out more about Chris.

My name is Chris and I am currently a medical student in my third year at Newcastle University. Before this, I also studied Molecular Biology at UCL, and have studied languages at university level, so I hope I can be of help to answer any and all questions you have about university!

When I was in college, I found that there was a lack of support and information regarding UCAS and applying to university, which meant that I struggled with the university application process. I opted to study in London because this was where I was from, and I wanted to be close to my family and friends. It is also one of the best cities in the world for studying, but I may be a bit biased! During my studies, I became interested in helping sixth form and college students with applying to university by answering queries about different degree programmes and university life in general.

Studying Molecular Biology allowed me to work within scientific research labs and the NHS, which fuelled my passion for Medicine. When I was making my second application to Medicine, I decided I wanted to experience a new city, which led me to move up to Newcastle. Newcastle University appealed to me because of the incredible sports societies it has available, along with how fun and friendly the city is. I hope from these experiences I can help you with important decisions about which city and university best suits you, as I know this can be a nerve-wracking process. I study with students who like me have already done a first degree and are now doing medicine as a second degree. I therefore have contact with students from lots of academic backgrounds and draw on their knowledge in their respective fields to provide you with information from other degree programmes you may be interested in.

Applying for university and deciding which degree to do is a very difficult process, especially when you have lots of other priorities at school/college and in your life. That’s why I’m here to help, with any questions you have about as you go through your first year of the RO programme. You can ask me about university - what it’s like, how you go about deciding what and where and I can support you as you begin to consider your applications. I am also on hand for any questions you have about the RO programme. Despite how scary it may seem now, university will be the best time of your life, so it’s important that you apply to the right place and the right degree. So please get in contact with any problems you may have, and remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question! Email me at

I look forward to hearing from you soon!
