Hello everyone!

I’m just checking in with you all again, as another month has gone by (so quickly!). We are in March now, and you are all well into the RO programme, how are you finding it?

RO Academic Assignment or EPQ

As you are all aware, part of the RO programme is to complete the academic element. This involves either the EPQ or the RO-run Academic Assignment. I know that some of you have contacted me with questions about the EPQ, and are starting it this year, or in Year 13.

The RO Central Team has been in touch with you to confirm your subject choice for the AA/EPQ – please do log on to the RO student hub and complete this!

Study Skills

Mock exams and the RO Academic Assignment are getting closer so I thought it’d be a good idea to go through some important study skills with you! I know preparing for assessments you’re not familiar with can be super daunting at first, but don’t worry I’m here to give you some tips.

Some helpful tips for when you answer exam questions and write your AA/EPQ are:

  • Try thinking like an examiner! Have you looked at examiner reports for your exam? If you haven’t, you will find this so helpful.
  • Read your syllabus! Make sure you have a good understanding of what you’re learning about, and where it fits in with the syllabus – this will aid your revision.
  • Know what to expect! Obviously you won’t know what you will be asked in an exam… but you can prepare yourself for the types of questions that will pop up. When you next start some revision, I want you to look at how many marks are allocated for your exam papers, what type of questions are asked, and how many questions you have to answer in the exam. If you struggle with this, feel free to contact me!
  • Practise answering questions in exam conditions – sit in silence, and time yourself. It’ll boost your confidence! You can find more study skills here.

skills4uni

I’ve been receiving a lot of messages about skills4Uni, and it is finally live everyone! So feel free to start now, and complete the challenge. This quiz is an excellent opportunity to prepare yourself for your AA/EPQ, and your upcoming exams. It’s also a good idea to start now if you feel confident, so you have completed another part of the programme :-)

Nuffield Research Placements

I know some of you are planning on studying a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or social science subject at university, so I would like to highlight a great opportunity to you all. There are currently placements being advertised by Nuffield, which will be an excellent opportunity to gain experience and insight into the working world in a career of your choice.

You can find them here: http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/nuffield-research-placements

Some of you may have noticed Nuffield at the conference – did you speak to the representatives?

Let me know how you are all getting on and if you have any questions, don’t forget you can email me.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Gursharan – your RO Ambassador.
