SUMMARY:UCL Masterclasses: Science and Engineering for Social Change – Topic: Solving the Complex Challenges Puzzle - a Multi-Disciplinary Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Location: Online \nEvent Information: * Deadline: Sunday 21 January\, 11:59pm*. We often hear that modern societies are currently facing complex global challenges\, which trespass boarders and are not easy to solve or even tackle. But what are the most pressing problems? In this Masterclass\, we will explore how science and engineering can help address these challenges when combined with the social sciences and public policy. SUMMARY:Degrees of separation: Universities then\, now and tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Location: The Gallery The Storey Meeting House Lane\, Lancaster\, LA1 1TH \nEvent Information: In this free public lecture\, Professor Joe Moran discusses the university as an ideal\, and as a real place. What should a university stand for\, who should be allowed to study there\, and what should a degree lead to? Does the university still have value as a physical space in an age of online learning? As part of the lecture\, Joe will draw on the experience of his parents as two of the first students at Lancaster University in 1964. They were first-generation students from working-class backgrounds with non-standard qualifications\, and Lancaster was the only university to accept them. How has the experience of being at university changed since they were students nearly sixty years ago? \n\nThis event is suitable for: Year 12 and 13. \nHow to book a place: Please register by clicking this link. \nRO Travel Scheme: Please contact Hamza Dalvi at realisingopportunities@lancaster.ac.uk for information on travel bursaries. \n\nRecording your attendance on the RO student hub: Please email the Lancaster University RO team at realisingopportunities@lancaster.ac.uk after the event to confirm your attendance.
