SUMMARY:Maps\, People and Perspectives: seeing the world from the other side - University of Leeds
DESCRIPTION:University hosting: University of Leeds \nLocation: University of Leeds Campus \nEvent Information: Have you ever wondered why people have such different ideas about the planet that we live on? Why some people think the earth is flat\, others see London as the centre of the map\, and how one patch of sea can be both the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of America? Sometimes we need to step into someone else’s shoes to see how they see the world. In this session you will explore how maps can be a tool to do that\, first through examining our own position\, and then through trying to understand someone else’s. You will look at maps from across time and space\, and use evaluative skills to discuss why these might not be ‘right’ or ‘wrong’\, but representative of different ways of seeing this earth we share. You will leave the session looking at Google Maps completely differently. \nThis event is suitable for: Year 12 \nHow to book a place: To book a place on this event please email rops@leeds.ac.uk \nRecording your attendance on the RO student hub: After attending\, please email rops@leeds.ac.uk. Please include your full name\, the date\, time and title of the event. Uploading attendance to the RO student hub after the event is a manual process so can take some time – please do not worry about this.

DESCRIPTION:University hosting: University of Leeds \nLocation: University of Leeds Campus \nEvent Information: This is the first event within a 3-part series. You’ll challenge familiar and famous studies\, uncover hidden assumptions and rethink what we value as evidence. We’ll delve into how Critical Psychology opens up new ways of understanding people and society\, giving you a fresh set of tools for thinking and debating as we draw ties between psychology\, politics and sociology. \nThis event is suitable for: Year 12 \nHow to book a place: To book a place on this event please email rops@leeds.ac.uk \nRecording your attendance on the RO student hub: After attending\, please email rops@leeds.ac.uk.
