Beginning in the late-nineteenth century\, Black people increasingly turned to life writing to (re)insert their experiences into national and international narratives. This session will allow you to access a different type of history which disrupts dominant narratives\, contextualising marginalised histories within broader historical\, literary\, and cultural frameworks. It does so by introducing a range of Black people’s life writing efforts from across the world during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. You will have the chance to work with various primary sources including memoirs\, music\, and literature. Students must be taking part in the RO scheme and will be able to claim travel expenses for public transport on the day. Please keep all receipts and tickets as proof. \nRecording your attendance on the RO student hub: Please email rops@leeds.ac.uk after the event so that your attendance can be logged on the RO database.
