SUMMARY:Drug Discovery Detectives - University of Leeds
DESCRIPTION:University hosting: University of Leeds \nLocation: University of Leeds Campus Woodhouse Lane\, Leeds \nEvent Information: In this session\, you are tasked with designing a drug to help treat a new rare protein misfolding disease. You will work through data and puzzles to discover the site of the diseasecausing mutation and conduct a drug repurposing screen to target the site you identified\, before running tests on the hit compounds to look at how well they work. Together\, this knowledge will help inform your decision to move drug candidates forward through the drug discovery pipeline to clinical trials where we will consider drug efficacy and side effects. \nThis event is suitable for: Year 12 \nHow to book a place: Email rops@leeds.ac.uk and if space is available we will confirm a place via email. Students must be taking part in the RO scheme and will be able to claim travel expenses for public transport on the day. Please keep all receipts and tickets as proof. \nRecording your attendance on the RO student hub: Please email rops@leeds.ac.uk after the event so that your attendance can be logged on the RO database. Please include your full name\, the date\, time and title of the event. Uploading attendance to the RO student hub after the event is a manual process so can take some time – please do not worry about this.
