Introducing Your RO Ambassador – Imogen
Introduction to me!
Hi everyone, I’m Imogen, and I am a 4th year BSc Psychology with Professional Placement year student at Newcastle University. I am really excited to work with you all as your Realising Opportunities Ambassador!

How did I decide on the course and the university?
I studied A levels Psychology, English Literature and Physical Education. I was absolutely drawn to psychology because of the way it encourages us to consider why we think and behave in the way we do and why we are all unique. Where I went to university was also largely important to me; I am local to Newcastle myself, and for me, I wanted to stay near home. At the time, it was discouraged by my peers and my teachers, but I am really glad that I listened to what I wanted. Newcastle offered so many advantages, such as a research-intensive degree in a city that I love. Everybody has different circumstances, and everybody has different desires about how they want to lead their university journey, and that is okay! It is really important to do just what is best for you.
What have I got up to at university so far?
I’ve made some great friends from my course and from university societies, namely Windband Society, but the overarching highlight so far has been my professional placement year in an NHS mood disorders service where I had both a clinical patient-facing role and a research role. It has enormously influenced my career aspiration (to be a clinical psychologist) and I really feel as though I have grown professionally; but most importantly, I made some great memories. This placement year may be something you’re interested in finding out more about from me!
I have also worked a number of part-time jobs such as in a GP practice and a learning disability residential home, and I’ve also been involved in some fantastic volunteering opportunities; if you would like advice on how to balance commitments like these with your studies, I hope that I can be helpful!
How can I help you?
As someone who applied to university with support from a variety of widening participation programmes, namely the Newcastle University PARTNERS supported entry route and the Social Mobility Foundation mentorship scheme, I am really passionate about helping others to make informed decisions about their future.
Please approach me with any questions, such as regarding needing help with reviewing your personal statement and receiving some feedback on it, your next steps and how to prepare for university. I will help you the best way I possibly can! You can get in touch with me via email: ro.ambassador@newcastle.ac.uk and watch my introduction video here.
Thank you!
Imogen 😊
