Introducing Your RO Ambassador – Varsika
Introduction to me!
Hi everyone, đmy name is Varsika and Iâm a current 4th year Medical student at Newcastle University. Iâm looking forward to working with you all as your Realising Opportunities Ambassador!Â

How did I decide on the course and the university?
I knew I wanted to study medicine because I wanted my course to be challenging but also the idea of constantly learning about how much the human body can do, really intrigues me! Newcastle wasnât always my first choice but after attending some open days for my top choices, the campus and course really drew me to Newcastle- honestly, Iâm very happy with how things worked out. I took a gap year to gain some experience and gained some great skills along the way. It is sometimes difficult to know what you want to study or where you see yourself, but I encourage trusting your passion and attending these open days to get a real feel of the atmosphere
What have I got up to at university so far?
After coming to university, it was great to get back into things that I enjoyed, with people that also had the same interests. Iâve danced in an inter-university competition, featuring the Gaana style of dance (Tamil dance form) and had a chance to perform classical dance for an event! đIâm now on the committee for two societies including the Paediatrics surgery society where we run fun events around medicine.
In medical school, Iâve seen babies being delivered naturally and via C-sections, which was definitely extraordinary and Iâm looking forward to seeing some heart transplants in my specialist component period soon. Also, Iâve worked part time as a student ambassador to support events, and itâs been a great way to share my advice and tips around university.
How can I help you?
As someone that has been in your position and entered Newcastle University through the Partners Scheme, I understand that support around applications and decisions surrounding university can be quite limited. Iâm here to answer any queries, give my top tips, review your personal statements and much more- trying to help you in the best way possible! Please feel free to contact me via email: ro.ambassador@newcastle.ac.uk
Thank you!
