All about the ASM

Today’s post is all about the Academic Skills Module (ASM). The ASM🖊️ is a key part of the Realising Opportunities programme and gives you a taste of what university study is really like. You’ll take part in a university-style lecture, practise taking notes, and learn important skills like referencing, critical thinking, and academic writing.

After the module, you’ll complete an assignment based on what you learned. This is designed to help with skills like reflection, which I’ve found is a key skills needed for university life. This task is really important because passing it is required to finish the programme and access any benefits, such as reduced university offers.

Overall, the ASM is designed to help you feel more confident and prepared for university by building the skills you’ll actually need when you get there. Doing Skills4uni beforehand can help you be prepared for the ASM!

I’ve attached the guide here which goes into detail about what to expect and what is involved in the ASM – https://www.realisingopportunities.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/ASM-Guide-Cohort-17.pdf

Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions and I’d be happy to help!
