How Time Travel Causes Gravity

Location: University of Leeds, Woodhouse Lane, LS2 9JT

Event Information: This session is designed as an introduction for students considering mathematical sciences of any type at university. Starting from Classical Mechanics and Newtons three laws, attendees will explore how simple distance-time graphs can illustrate Einstein’s theories of Special and General Relativity. This will be done by visiting the same thought experiments Einstein examined when developing his theories. The session will also explain the curved spacetime and the famous weightlessness thought experiment with practical demonstrations of the effects. By the session’s end, students should understand the basics of time dilation, curved spacetime, and gravity according to Einstein.

This event is suitable for: Year 12.
