Japanese and Chinese Beginners’ Language Workshop

Location: University of Leeds, Woodhouse Lane, LS2 9JT

Event Information: In the 21st century a working knowledge of the Chinese and Japanese languages is an invaluable tool in a huge variety of careers. This session will give participants the opportunity to learn the rudimentary basics of the Chinese and Japanese languages. Whilst historically closely related because of Japan’s use of Kanji (Chinese characters) within the wider Japanese writing system, Chinese and Japanese are different languages, with very different grammar and distinct pronunciation. During the session students will learn about the writing systems and pronunciation of each language, as well as some important cultural knowledge. How could ‘ma ma ma ma?’ mean ‘does mother scold the horse?’ and why should you apologise even when it’s the other person’s fault? Sign up soon to find out.

This event is suitable for: Year 12.
