Note for Care Experienced and Estranged Students

We offer full travel reimbursement for students in Years 12 and 13 who have experienced time in care, or who are estranged from their family, and are visiting Newcastle University as part of their journey to higher education. This may include: Open Days; Offer Holder Days; Applicant interviews; or other one-day outreach events hosted by the University.

We can cover the cost of one return journey from your home address, provided you supply a copy of your travel ticket/receipt. We ask that you use the most reasonable form of transport—for example, standard‑class rail travel. Please note that flights cannot be reimbursed. If you’d like to take advantage of this support or have any questions, please contact visit.bursary@ncl.ac.uk.

Recording your attendance on the RO student hub: 

Please email realising.opportunities@newcastle.ac.uk who will check with the event team to confirm your attendance after the event and update your RO hub. Please include your full name, the date, time and title of the event. 

Uploading attendance to the RO student hub after the event is a manual process so can take some time – please do not worry about this.
