Event Information: Have you ever wondered why people have such different ideas about the planet that we live on? Why some people think the earth is flat, others see London as the centre of the map, and how one patch of sea can be both the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of America? Sometimes we need to step into someone else’s shoes to see how they see the world. In this session you will explore how maps can be a tool to do that, first through examining our own position, and then through trying to understand someone else’s. You will look at maps from across time and space, and use evaluative skills to discuss why these might not be ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, but representative of different ways of seeing this earth we share. You will leave the session looking at Google Maps completely differently.
