The Cool Science of Ice Cream

Location: University of Leeds, Woodhouse Lane, LS2 9JT

Event Information: In this workshop students will be introduced to the ways in which materials mix together and how they can behave under different circumstances. They will learn about immiscible liquids and emulsions and understand where these are found in everyday life and why they are important to scientists. They will carry out their own experiments to make a very tasty emulsion – ice cream. Students will learn about the importance of the different ingredients in ice cream and the challenges in creating plant-based alternatives. This session will give students a taste of food formulation and how science is crucial for this process.

This event is suitable for: Year 12.
