Fan-tastic Engineering – University of Leeds
University hosting: University of Leeds
Location: University of Leeds Campus
Event Information: Get ready to challenge your inner engineer with this design and optimization challenge! In this session, you will design and build your own custom land-driven boat that will harness the energy from ordinary battery-powered fans. You’ll test how different sail designs, materials, and fan angles affect the dynamic performance of the vehicle, learning how aerodynamics comes into play. Engineering is all about optimization – which is why you’ll get to reiterate your designs as you keep testing. Once your vehicle is ready, we’ll test it on a track to see which team harnessed the greatest energy from the fans! Suitable for: General kinematic knowledge is preferred, but is accessible to all!
This event is suitable for: Year 12
