Introducing Your New RO Ambassador – Chloe

Say hello to Chloe, a current uni student at Newcastle University

Hello! I am Chloe, a third year Dentistry Student at Newcastle University, and this year I’m your Realising Opportunities (RO) Ambassador. Prior to university, I studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at A-Level.

Initially I thought I was interested in a biomedical science related career, so I applied to Newcastle University to study Pharmacology, which I then achieved my Bachelor of Science degree in. However, while studying this course I ultimately decided I wanted to pursue a more patient-based career in Dentistry. I then applied through UCAS again as an undergraduate and got accepted onto a few Dentistry courses, and I chose to stay at Newcastle University. So, I am now 6 years into my university journey, with 2 to go. Not all university journeys are simple and straight forward, but by the end I will be working in my dream career.

Outside of university, I enjoy horse riding, hiking, visiting new places and socialising with my friends. If I could give my 17-year-old self any advice it would be to not worry about knowing straight away what career path you’d like to take. Try to spend some time researching and chatting to teachers/friends/ family about your different academic interests and potential university courses, before eventually deciding which is best for you. If I had done this maybe I would have had the confidence to apply to Dentistry first time round. I am looking forward to working with you and answering any questions you may have.

Students in their first year of the RO programme can email me – check your monthly update emails for my email address. It would be great to hear about your plans for this year or in the longer term!
